When changing your HOS status, simply tap on the HOS button in the very top right corner of the app home screen. It should say OFF (meaning Off Duty) by default. If you tap on it once, it brings up the Change Duty Status screen.
You will be utilizing this screen a lot, as it is where you will make any manual status changes. Not all status changes require you to update the log manually. For example, when you switch the status to On Duty and start driving your vehicle, it will automatically change to Driving status. Also, if you are stopped for more than six minutes the status will automatically change back to On Duty.
Update your HOS status on the Change Duty Status Screen. When you change the status, be sure to tap “Save” in the top right corner of the screen to save your changes.
Extra settings are included in some duty status options. In the Off Duty status, a driver has the option to “Enable Personal Conveyance”. When this is selected a driver can move their truck without triggering an automatic duty status change to Driving.
Additionally, when a driver has On Duty selected, there is an option for them to “Enable Yard Moves”. With this feature the driver can move their truck around the yard without the status automatically changing to Drive.
When you change your duty status a location is captured with that change. You also have the chance to type in a note for any circumstances that may need further explanation such as stopping for gas, checking brakes, or doing a pre- or post-trip inspections.
Lastly, in the Fleet Portal, a manager now has the ability to enable or disable Manual Drives. This means that if this feature is enabled (automatically enabled for most fleets), drivers will be able to select the Driving status and save it even if they are not connected to the VDA. If this feature is disabled, drivers will not be able to select and save the Driving status. It appears to the driver as a greyed out bubble, as shown below.
